Most of the time I work on a system called a Trigger. This is a system which decides whether or not to store one of the collisions from the LHC or to reject it. If it gets rejected we can’t get it back so we have to make sure we keep anything that looks interesting! The reason we can’t keep all the collisions and look at them is because there are 40 million happening every second! We can’t store that much data so need to figure out what to keep and what to get rid of. We only have 3 millionth’s of a second to make this decision!

What I would like to do next?:
I am keen to continue working on the CMS experiment, as we have some pretty big upgrades going in over the next few years which will enable us to look at a lot more data and hopefully find something unexpected!
