👋 Meet the CERN scientists

Drop in to the live Chat next Tuesday, 16 January, between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

Get to know the scientists working on nuclear physics research projects at CERN. Across the hour you can ask them questions about themselves, their work or their life at CERN.

You can join in on conversations your peers are having and get a better understanding of why studying physics beyond school might be something for you.

What happened in yesterday’s CERN Chat?

Students from 2 schools got the opportunity to ask 8 CERN scientists from 4 team.

The students chatted about the quarks, quantum mechanics, the “cosmological constant problem”, simulations and of course, what would happen if you walked into a particle accelerator when it was running. The open Chat meant it was quick and easy for aspiring physicists to drop in and find out about CERN life.

Team update: What have LHCb been up to?

The Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment specializes in investigating the slight differences between matter and antimatter by studying a type of particle called the “beauty quark”, or “b quark”.

Jonathan, from the LHCb team, has given us an update on what his team have been up to lately:

“One of LHCb’s specialties is being able to make very precise measurements and so is in an excellent position to look for differences between these measurements and our predictions…
